Selma has a new city clerk.

The Selma City Council elected Ivy Harrison, the former assistant city clerk, Tuesday night as its new appointment, replacing Lois Williams.

The appointment did not come without controversy. Council members Sam Randolph and Bennie Ruth Crenshaw opposed the move.

After Harrison was selected, Randolph leaned back in his chair and said of Williams, “She trained Ivy Harrison.”

Crenshaw shook her head and said, “Pay attention, Selma.”

Harrison wasn’t the only appointment.

The council re-appointed Cynthia Mitchell as city treasurer.

The appointments last for four years.
