With area tournaments out of the way, the state title picture is starting to take shape.

Selma’s last-second win over Carver-Montgomery on Monday catapulted the Saints into a host position for Friday’s sub-region game with John Carroll.

The Saints will have to recover from the celebration that ensued following DeAngelo Norris’ game-winning shot on Monday.

“They know the importance of this game,” said Selma coach Woodie Jackson. “After the area championship, you always want to win. You win, you continue. If not, you’ve gotta wait till next year.”

R.C. Hatch overcame a disappointing season to sweep Francis Marion’s area tournament and host Pickens County in Friday’s sub-regional game.

“We’re where we need to be,” said R.C. Hatch coach Homer Davis. “We went through a lot of obstacles this season. Now it’s a different season — playoffs.”

The Bobcats beat Keith to earn hosting rights, and the Bears will travel to Hale County to play for their shot to advance. Like the Bobcats, Keith has had an up-and-down year, and enters the sub-regional hoping to make a statement.

“Physically, we’re there. Talent-wise, we can play with anybody,” said Keith coach Tommy Tisdale. “Our guys have got to get mentally focused.”
