Ronald Elrod

Ronald Watson Elrod, 72, a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, a resident of Wetumpka passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2009 in a Birmingham hospital.
Ron was born in Sylacauga and returned to Sylacauga following his service in the United States Navy. There he met and married Louise Walton. He later moved his family to Selma where he became an electrician for Hammermill Paper Company and retired after 33 years of service as the senior electrician in the department. Upon retirement he and his wife Louise moved to Wetumpka. Ron was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Wetumpka.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Louise Walton Elrod; two children: Lynn Elrod Irwin (Bruce) and Michael Wade Elrod (Julie); four grandchildren, Cameron Marie Irwin, Catherine Elizabeth Irwin, Jonathan Michael Elrod, and Parker Westbrook Elrod; and a brother Ralph Elrod. He is preceded in death by his father, Luther Elrod, mother, Myrtle Elrod and two brothers Richard Elrod and Roger Elrod.
The family will receive friends at Gassett Funeral Home in Wetumpka on Saturday, March 28 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM; Dr. James Troglen will conduct a brief service at Gassett Funeral Home Chapel following visitation. A private family interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Sylacauga. Pallbearers are Mike Elrod, Bruce Irwin, Jonathan Elrod, Wes Elrod, Donnie Walton, Brad Walton, and Kent Walton.
