Flossie H. “MeMe” Somich age 89 of Selma passed away on August 19, 2009 at Vaughan Region Medical Center. Graveside services will be held on Friday August 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at New Live Oak Cemetery with Rev. Bob Frazer officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Somich was a secretary/stenographer. She began her career working with Attorney Roy Smith and later going to work for Craig Air Force Base Civil Engineering Department. She received the Outstanding Achievement Award from Craig AFB Civil Engineering Dept. after 33 years of loyal and dedicated service. She was a member of Alabama Avenue Presbyterian Church and later Riverview Presbyterian Church. She was a loving, caring, and devoted mother, grandmother, friend, and most of all “MeMe” to everyone who knew her.
Mrs. Somich is preceded in death by her parents, I. Vernon Henderson and Eunice Keenan and her sister, LaVerne Henderson.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Blackmon (Ron), two granddaughters, Angie Thomas (Jamie) and Kim McHugh (Brandon), and her six great-grandchildren, Caroline Thomas, Sarah Thomas, Keenan Lee McHugh, Delaney McHugh, Rhett Thomas, and Ellis Anne McHugh.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to The Presbyterian Children’s Home, P.O. Box 577 Talladega, AL 35160 or the charity of your choice.
