John Benton Howell, 58, of Birmingham, AL, died on August 29, 2009.
Born in Valley, AL, he is predeceased by his parents, William Lee and Mary Howell and his mother-in-law Sis Eanes Wood.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lene Wood Howell; his children, Audrey Howell of Durham, NC and Drew Howell of Birmingham, AL; and his brother, William Lee (Brenda) Howell, Jr. of Birmingham, AL. Other survivors include his father-in-law, George Wood, Sr. of Selma, AL; brother-in-laws, George (Louise) Wood and Tim (Susan) Wood, of Selma, AL and Mike (Pam) Wood, of Dothan, AL; sister-in-laws, Ann (Jimmy) Neely of Birmingham, AL and Sharon (Bruce) Hughes of Selma, AL; aunts, Pat Foster, of Penton, AL and Ruby Smith, of Auburn, AL; uncle, John MacDavid Howell of Greenville, NC; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was an alumnus of Auburn University, and a member of Independent Presbyterian Church and the Starlight Ballroom Dance Group. He was employed by DataHouse and served as an Assistant Scoutmaster for the Greater Alabama Council-Boy Scouts of America, Troup 28.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2:00 pm CST, at Independent Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, AL.
