James Elbert Skinner, Jr., 85, of Valley Grande, Alabama died Tuesday, September 1, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise M. Skinner.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 4, 2009 at New Live Oak Cemetery with Guy Anderson officiating and Lawrence Brown Funeral Home directing.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. Skinner and Catherine H. Skinner, granddaughter and husband, Kimberly S. Daniels and Hank B. Daniels, and great-granddaughter Rebecca E. Daniels. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, William E. Skinner and Margaret P. Skinner, and his sister and brother-in-law, Miriam S. Saul and Oscar E. Saul.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in Europe as a pilot in the Army Air Corps and later in the Air Force Reserve until retiring with the rank of Major. He served his community as an active member and officer of the Selma Civitan Club for over 53 years. He was also involved with the West Central Alabama Rehabilitation Center for 52 years and served on the board of directors as a member and officer of that board for the last 32 years.
Active pallbearers will be Gerald Anderson, Alex McDaniel, Eugene Middlebrooks, Bill Neighbors, Bill Trippe and David White.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Selma Civitan Club and members and officers of the board of directors of the West Central Alabama Rehabilitation Foundation.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the West Central Alabama Rehabilitation Foundation.
