Rev. John Davis

Rev. John Raymond Davis, 61, of Selma, AL, formerly of Alexandria, VA, and Salisbury, NC passed from labor to Heavenly rest Friday, September 25, 2009 at Warren Manor Rehabilitation Center. Services are scheduled for Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Selma with Dr. C. A. Lett and Rev. John D. Mobley, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery, Sheffield, AL under the direction of Miller Funeral Service.
He was employed by the US Pentagon; the Library of Congress/Copyright Office, Washington DC; Selma University, The AL Department of Youth Services, Dallas County Board of Education and co-owner of Robes &Gowns of Selma.
Rev. Davis was licensed to preach the gospel April 18, 1982 at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Annandale, VA under the pastorate of Dr. Carroll A. Baltimore and ordained to the gospel Ministry at the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Selma, AL under the pastorate of Dr. C. A. Lett. He served as pastor of Providence Baptist Church, Selma; Eastern Star Baptist Church, Demopolis and Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Selma.
He will be deeply missed by family and friends for his sense of humor and his code of honor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. and Luvenia Davis, Sr., and his only brother, Thomas J. Davis, Jr.
Rev. Davis is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Mattie Campbell Davis; one devoted son, John R. Davis II; two special godsons, one sister, Alice T. Wall; one uncle, William Briley; five nephews; four nieces and a host of extended family and friends.
