SELMA — Morgan Academy continues its journey through the AISA Top 10 teams this week when the Senators host No. 6 Bessemer at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Class AAA Region 2 matchup is important for both teams, Morgan Academy coach Brian King said Wednesday.
“This game Friday ultimately determines who will be first in the region,” he said. “We’re in great shape. We’ve been in every single game we’ve played this year.”
Games against ranked opponents include a 13-6 loss to No. 7 Pike Liberal and a 20-3 loss to No. 1 Southern last week. Fortunately, the Senators will be playing at home Friday.
“It’s good to be back home,” King said. “We’ve been on the road the past three games, and we’ve lost all three of them.”
For Morgan Academy, the problem has been the follow-through.
“We have just to finish a game,” Kind said about his 3-4 Senators. “We’ve gotten a lot better than last year because the players have gotten older.”
Ideally, King said he hopes his squad can start a three-game winning streak with Bessemer (6-1) on Friday.
“We’ve got three region games left,” he said. “And I would like to go 3-0 to make sure we make the playoffs.”
