Get out your little American flags and prepare for an adventure in music.
The 151st National Guard Army Band is coming to Selma to present a free concert of patriotic music for the community. The event is Saturday, Feb. 6, at 7:30 p.m. at Pickard Auditorium.
The Selma Community Concert Association planned and will host the event, said Doris Holland, president of the association.
“We want to invite everyone to come to the National Guard Band Concert to show the patriotism we have in our town,” she said.
During the concert the association will honor all veterans from all areas of service, Holland said.
“We want to give them a special thanks for the contribution they have given their country,” she said.
The 151st National Guard Army Band consists of about 40 citizen soldiers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and North Carolina. The band has performed in venues all over the United States and in Costa Rica, Columbia and at various U.S. embassies over the world on goodwill tours.
Additionally, Brig. Gen Sheryl Speed Gordon will return to her native Selma.
She is the commander of the 62nd Troop Command and the 151st is one of the units that serve under her.
