Authorities warn of home-repair scammers

Alabama Attorney General Troy King sent out a warning Thursday to be aware of traveling home repair workers who solicit business door-to-door.
This concern was echoed by Dallas County Chief Deputy Randy Pugh.
“We have two or three complaints for people so far that we know,” said Pugh.
According to Pugh the scam is done in different ways.
Sometimes the workers will offer to do the job for a low price and then later demand more money, or they will try to get people to pay a larger sum up front and leave town without doing the job.
According to Pugh the scam has been taking place all over the state and not just in Selma.
“We wanted to make sure that people know if they are approached by anyone with this kind of offer to please contact us.”
If you do run into workers who approach you in this manner, you can call the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department at (334) 875-2530.
