After playing eight games in seven days, the Morgan Academy baseball team finally ran out of gas.
The Senators (4-3) lost to Edgewood Academy 11-1 Monday afternoon.
“We looked hungover from playing four games in three days,” said Morgan coach Robert Massey.
Joel Yarbrough got the start for Morgan and pitched four solid innings for the Senators before being pulled with Morgan down 4-1.
“Joel pitched well for us,” said Massey. “But we have two region games this week and needed to save him for those games.”
Taylor Copeland and Cobb Bostick both pitched in the game and both struggled from the mound.
The two gave up seven runs on two hits, with five hit batters and two walks.
“We were pitching young pitchers against a good team,” said Massey. “We had to learn a bit today.”
Edgewood is coming off of an AISA class AA state championship this past season.
According to Massey, playing teams of that caliber was the plan before the season started.
“We know if we wanted to be better, we would have to play good teams,” he said. “That is why we are taking on programs like Edgewood.”
At the plate Ryan Traylor was 1-1 and Connor Thorpe added a double for Morgan.
The Senators will play region games today and Friday depending on the weather.
