Dr. Robert J. (Bobby) Henderson

Dr. Robert J. (Bobby) Henderson, 80, died Sunday 7/25/10 at his residence in Brunswick.
Dr. Henderson was a native of Brunswick, Ga., and following his graduation from Glynn Academy in the Class of 1948, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
Honorarably discharged from the military service, he attended Emory University where he completed his pre-medical work.
He received his M.D. degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1958, and began the practice of medicine in Selma, Alabama, in 1962.
In 1978, Dr. Henderson withdrew from private practice and began a new career as Assistant State Health Officer to the Alabama State Department of Public Health, a position he held until his retirement in 1989 at which time he returned to Brunswick.
Dr. Henderson was a member of the American Medical Association, The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Alabama Public Health Association, the Dallas County (AL) and the Jackson County (AL) Medical Societies, having served as President of both societies.
He was a member of the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where he served as a lay reader and was a member of the St. Mark’s Men’s Fellowship, and the St. Mark’s Men’s Bible
Study Group.
He is survived by his wife, the former Betty June Ayers of Augusta and now of Brunswick, a son, William Bruce Henderson, and was pre-deceased by three sons, Robert
J. Henderson, III, Thomas Ayers Henderson and Edward Duncan Henderson.
He is further survived by two grandchildren, Emily Henderson and Neal Henderson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Mass in honor of Dr. Henderson will be held at the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on Thursday July 29, 2010 at 10 AM with Rev. Alan Akridge and Rev. Ed-
ward S. Williams officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request that friends make contributions to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Building Fund.
