The gods walk among us

Many people may have realized that this summer in Dallas County has been a little bit warmer than usual. While many believe it is the direct effect of global warming, very few understand that this unusual heat has been a direct result of a special visitor in Selma.

Apollo, the sun god in Greek mythology, has been taking a break from the politics of Mt. Olympus and renting a house in Old Town.

“I moved in around the middle of May and have come to thoroughly enjoy this city and its residents.” Apollo said when asked about his visit. “I have toured all of the local museums and even tried my hand at fishing, but my favorite activity would have to be standing under the digital thermometers outside of businesses and watching the numbers go up.”

Apollo is not the only Greek mythology god to visit our fair city this summer. He has invited many of his Mt. Olympus friends down for visits to enjoy our southern hospitality. Zeus, the king of the Greek gods, likes to visit Apollo’s summer rental often.

“I am extremely sorry for my little lightening bolt fiasco.” Zeus said. “I want to assure the good members of St. Paul’s that I promise never to make that mistake again. I also want to state for the record that I swear I saw Cronos behind that bell tower.”

To show their appreciation of our city’s hospitality, Apollo and Zeus have asked some fellow Greek gods and goddesses to perform their version of how as they say the Trojan War “really went down”.

Athena, Hera and Poseidon will all be making appearances Aug. 20 and Aug. 21 in the “Hysterical History of the Trojan War”. Show times will be at 7:30 p.m. and will take place at the Larry D. Striplin Performing Arts Center.

This event will be hosted by our very own Arts Revive. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Arts Revive will also be hosting a farewell wine and cheese party after Saturday’s performance.

If anyone would like to meet and mingle with the Greek gods, they are encourage them to attend this event as well. Price for the meet and mingle will be an additional $5.
