The fall 2010 ‘Lunch at the Library” series will kick off Sept. 16 with a return visit from Melina Rainey Thompson, co-author of “I Love You — Now Hush,” a humorous collection of essays about the relationships of men and women.

“This series is pretty varied,” said Becky Nichols, library director. “It kicks off with a humorous collection of stories, then we’ll move into the famous butterfly book, and then move into a cook book.”

Nichols recommends visiting on Nov. 18 for “Come Cook With Me” by Betty Ruth Speir to pick up the book for holiday presents.

“For most of our ‘Lunch at the Libraries,’ we try to place them around community events or times when people are gathering,” Nichols said. “November is placed right before Thanksgiving with a book that will sell that will be a good Christmas gift.”

Author Thompson is excited to come back to Selma, not far from her hometown of Greenville.

“It is by far my favorite event to do,” Thompson said. “It is so organized, it is well-attended, it has a lot of real readers that come, and you can’t be those casseroles. It’s a really fun event. I’m not exaggerating.”

Schedule for “Lunch at the Library” is as follows: “I Love You — Now Hush” by Thompson and Morgan Murphy on Oct. 16, “Butterflies of Alabama: Glimpses into Their Lives” by Paulette Haywood Ogard and Sara Cunningham Bright on Oct. 7 and “Come Cook With Me” by Betty Ruth Speir on Nov. 18.

About three more author visits will be added to the series, but offers are still pending, Nichols said.

Lunch will be provided from noon until 12:30 p.m. and the program will be from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. Book sales and autograph time will follow each program. Cost for lunch is $8. For more information, call 874-1725.
