This season has something for everyone.
Selma Community Concert Association is proud to announce the 2010-2011 season, which ranges from a jazz performance by Kathy Kosins and Ray Reach to the Auburn Singers from Auburn University and an illusion show by Spencers Theater of Illusion.
Doris Holland, president of the Selma Community Concert Association, encourages everyone to come to the events this season.
“When was the last time that you gave your TV and standing ovation?” Holland said. “Live music is so exciting. It’s just not the same when you watch it on television all by yourself.”
Holland is thrilled to add a new element to the series — a magic show by Spencers Theater of Illusion from Lynchburg, Va.
“This is something Community Concert has never done before,” Holland said. “We usually have just music, and this is a magic and illusion show.”
The first show of the series, a concert at 7 p.m. on Oct. 21 by Kathy Kosins and Ray Reach from the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, will showcase classic jazz as well as a second act of show tunes, by request, from the 1920s through 1960s.
“The shows that we are having this year are a variety that will really appeal to a broad spectrum of people,” Holland said.
The second performance will be the illusion show on Jan. 29 at 7 p.m.
Concluding the series on Feb. 24, the Auburn Singers from Auburn University will dazzle audiences with their vocals and dance moves.
“They always put on what I call a high velocity show,” said Randy Smith, concert manager. “They come on and have some very talented young people who sing and have some choreography.”
Season ticket holders who purchase the donor, patron, benefactor, gold sponsor or platinum sponsor packages will be invited to a special party and concert on Nov. 18 with the Tradewinds Band at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are available from Community Concert volunteers, Selma-Dallas County Public Library, Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, The Frame Shoppe or contact Hazel Salter at 874-8064, Doris Holland at 875-9201 or Margaret Griffin 872-3559.
