John William Porter, 64 of Tallahassee passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 7, 2010.

Visitation will be held on Friday September 10th from 6-8 p.m. at Cully’s Meadowwood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel, with funeral services on Saturday, September 11th at 10:30 a.m.

John was born in Selma, Alabama, and had lived in Jacksonville, Florida briefly before moving to Tallahassee with his wife Judy in 1976.

John retired from the State of Florida, Department of Children and Families in 2007 after 35 years.

He held various positions, but most recently handled Refugee contract management.

John was a family man and an active outdoorsman, giving a generous amout of time as a scout leader.

Through his dedication to youth and scouting experiences, John shared scuba diving, camping, and community service.

John loved home projects, FSU football with friends, yard landscaping, and sharing time with friends and family.

In retirement, John enjoyed working on completion of home renovations, and looked forward to spending more time with family and traveling to Zambia Africa to visit his

brother.

John made a positive impact on many lives, left us with fond memories, and will be sorely missed.

John is survived by his loving wife of 39 years Judy, daughter Kelly Porter-Centanni and husband Doug of Houston, Texas, son Ryan Porter, wife Tiffany, and granddaughter Madison of Crawfordville, Florida, brother Lonnie Porter and wife Pauline of Zambia, Africa, sister-in-law Carole Bohnert and her husband Tom of Rochester New Hampshire,

niece Amy and nephews Eric and Kurt.
