Here are a few reminders when recycling cans

It’s almost time for us to make another donation to the Claude C. Brown YMCA. Since our last donation to the YMCA, we have collected $49.90 from our aluminum can drive.
Thank you to the consistent donors, but I would like to reignite the fervor for the collection we received before our first donation.
I would like to present Yasmin McKinney, YMCA director, with the next installment of the profits of our collection drive before the end of the month.
Our goal for the total donation amount this time is $100. That means we need to collect $50.10 from aluminum cans or monetary donations in four weeks. This goal is going to take an effort from all of us.
Each recycled can weighs about 1.8 ounces and is worth a total of $0.50 per pound. If all of us can make the effort to recycle, this total will quickly add up to a substantial donation.
For those of you new to donating aluminum cans, these are four tips to remember:
Rinse out beer cans. As the cans sit in the plastic bags, the fermentation creates an unappealing smell, which we prefer not to experience.
Collect cans in one large bag or one small bag, but please do not place bags within bags.
Only donate aluminum cans. The recycling center does not accept glass bottles or aluminum foil.
Bring cans. Without donations of cans, our collection drive won’t impact the community as strongly.
If you would like to contribute to our collection drive, please brings bags or boxes filled with aluminum cans to the Times-Journal office, 1018 Water Ave. Ask that the cans be given to me, Laura Fenton.
Thanks to all the support from those who donated last week, and thank you in advance for all the donations this week.
