The Selma Code Enforcement Office has handled 86 violations over the city during the last month, according to figures released by officials at City Hall.
“We are working diligently to improve these areas,” said Mayor George Evans. “Code enforcement is out there every day.”
Most of the calls for September involved citations for properties deemed a public nuisance by litter or illegal dumping, the report shows.
“We have a real problem, too of dilapidated houses in some wards,” Ward 4 Councilwoman Angela Benjamin said.
No dilapidated properties were reported by code enforcement during September.
However, the department did answer calls as to 11 abandoned vehicles and 15 overgrown lots in addition to the 60 tickets issued for public nuisance properties.
One vehicle found at 1607 Lapsley St. was impounded, according to the report.
A breakdown of offenses by ward include:
Ward 1: One citation issued;
Ward 2: Five citations issued; one overgrown lot
Ward 3: Six abandoned vehicles; two citations issued; one overgrown lot
Ward 4: Six citations issued; three overgrown lots
Ward 5: Three abandoned vehicles; six citations issued; one overgrown lot
Ward 6: One overgrown lot; 16 citations
