A Selma City Council committee has selected 10 names from a bank of 28 of people who wish to serve on the Selma Water and Sewer Board.
The recommendations come after two afternoons of interviews last week and Monday by the Selma City Council Administrative Committee.
Councilman Corey Bowie said the 10 finalists will be submitted to the full council for a decision to fill two vacancies on the water and sewer board.
“All of them could have served on the water board,” Bowie said of the 28 applicants. “It was a difficult task to trim it down to 10.”
The terms of Councilwoman Bennie Ruth Crenshaw and Water and Sewer Board Chairman the Rev. Lee Goodwin have expired. The council intended to make the appointments by Oct. 18, then delayed a decision until those interested could file resumes with the administrative committee.
Crenshaw did not submit an application.
City council president Cecil Williamson said the council likely would take up the issue at its next meeting Tuesday, Nov. 9.
“There’re some people on there I could be pleased with,” Williamson said of the finalists.
The 10 finalists for the position are:
- Rev. Lee Goodwin, six years as a member of the water board and two years as chairman, retired as industrial electrician for General Motors Corporation
- Martis M. Black Jr., in-home co-therapist, Cahaba Mental Health
- Ronnie Leet, retired, manager of CARQUEST Auto Parts.
- John W. Kelly III, former attorney and legal counsel for the water board during the 1990s, self-employed attorney, Kelly & Kelly

- Evelyn M. Cox, coordinator for the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program
- Roderick V. West, social studies teacher R.C. Hatch High School, Uniontown
