Jimmy Wayne Akers 66, a resident of Prattville, AL, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2010. He loved the water and was an avid fisherman, as well as a member of the Pine Level Bass Club. He retired after forty years of service with International Paper Company of Selma, AL. He had a passion for coaching youth in sports, and until his health no longer allowed him, he was an active volunteer with the City of Prattville Girls Softball League, as well as the Prattville YMCA Youth Teams. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Helen Akers; and a sister, Sherry Akers. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette R. Akers: daughter, LaJuana Akers Roberts; son and daughter-in-law, James Wade and Roxanne Akers, all of Prattville, AL; sister, Debra Sue Belcher, Selma, AL; four grandchildren, of whom he was their number one fan, Chasi Roberts, Clint Roberts, Marissa Akers, Lakelyn Akers. Pallbearers will be Herman Campbell, Herb Hoff, Lindsey McAfee, John McMurry, Jerry Roberts, Wayne Roberts. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2010 with Chaplain Danny Robbins officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday at Ridout’s Prattville Chapel from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his honor to Vista Care Hospice, 700 Interstate Park Dr # 705, Montgomery 36109.
