The student council at Tipton Durant Middle sponsored a school-wide canned food drive for the pantry of Teen Challenge.

Teen Challenge is a local Christian drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Jones.

The canned food drive started Nov. 15 when council members posted flyers to encourage fellow students to donate toward this worthy cause. The drive ended successfully on Nov. 19.

The canned food drive was a way for students at Tipton Durant Middle School to give back to the community. It allowed students to share their blessings with the less fortunate members of the community and learn values of generosity, thankfulness, empathy, and caring.

The student council received more than 600 donated canned food items. This community service project came just in time for the season of giving.

Dinner theater at Selma High School

The Selma High School choir presents “Five Church Ladies” Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carl Morgan Convention Center.

Admission to the fundraising dinner theater presentation is $15 with the proceeds going to fund the choir’s efforts next year.

For a full feature on this play, which has been described as a “riveting gospel play about church ladies who have the potential to do great things in the church but choose to tear down rather than build up,” see Sunday’s edition of The Selma Times-Journal.
