Bowie challenges his constituents

Selma City Councilman Corey D. Bowie is challenging residents of Ward 8 to aid the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree efforts.

Christmas, Bowie said, can be an economic burden on families. But, he said, a record high 900 angels on this year’s tree is alarming.

Fortunately, Bowie said, the number is down to 700. But more help is needed.

“I am soliciting businesses, churches and constituents of Ward 8 to join me in adopting angels from the angel tree to benefit some well-deserving children,” he said. “As a ward we can come together to be a blessing to needy children on Christmas morning.”

Monetary donations can be dropped off at Selma One Stop Record Shop at 1218 Alabama Ave., or at the home of James Durry, located at 210 Dedman St. Checks should be made payable to the Salvation Army.

The Angel Tree, Bowie said, is an excellent opportunity for everyone to come together for a common goal.

“The cry for help is out, so let’s do our part as Christians and answer the call,” he said. “Time for this noble project is of the essence.”
