As part of its annual holiday tradition, Sturdivant Hall will open Thursday and Friday for its free Christmas open house.
The tours, director Nancy Gantt said, will take place during normal business hours.
“We’ll be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.,” she said. “There will be unguided tours so people can come in and see how pretty the house is decorated.”
Each of the downstairs rooms will be decorated for Christmas by numerous volunteers including Gantt, Greg Bjelke, Karen Morris, Sharon Hardy, Pat Vlack, Liz Jones, Nell Mooney, Fred Williams and Bill Albritton.
Check Stephens of Stephens Christmas Tree Farm is again donating the Christmas tree. Christmas music will be provided by Gordon Welch accompanied by vocalist Gery Anderson and Arlene Phillips.
All of the hard work, Gantt said, pays off when they see the look on people’s faces.
“They love to see the decorations and take in the smell of the fresh greenery,” she said. “We try to keep it decorated in the period. It really puts you in the Christmas spirit.”
Gantt said the tours usually cater to locals, but she has received calls from outside Dallas County.
“We’ve had a couple of people call and ask about it,” she said. “It seems to vary from year to year how many people we have attending and where they come from.”
