The robbery of Selma’s CVS Pharmacy set off a chain of events that ended with an automobile accident and an injured officer.
The accident occurred after a black male, who authorities believe was armed, fled CVS after a robbery.
The department, Selma Police Chief William T. Riley said, is still gathering information on the robbery and a description of the suspect. They do have a video on the way.
“Right now we have a video and we are waiting for the person managing the business to get a copy for us,” he said.
The suspect, Riley said, is a black male who is from 5-foot-10 to 6-feet tall and weighs 255 to 270 pounds. He was wearing a black sweatshirt, white T-shirt and khaki pants at the time of the robbery.
While in pursuit of the suspect, Officer Harry Tubbs was injured when he collided with a Lexus at the corner of Broad Street and Highland Avenue.
“He got a call on the robbery and was en-route and then received another call that the suspect might be headed in the other direction,” he said. “He attempted to make a turn and collided with a civilian.”
Both were rushed to Vaughan Regional Medical Center.
Fortunately, Riley said, Tubbs and the civilian motorist are expected to recover from their injuries.
“Right now there appear to be only minor injuries from what we can tell,” he said. “He was released from the hospital and will be going for further treatment.”
Riley said Tubbs might have a hairline fracture in his arm, but they will not know for sure until X-rays are taken.
Riley said Tubbs should be able to rejoin the department in a timely manner.
“We’ll probably keep him on light duty until he is back to 100 percent,” he said.
