An accident that claimed the life of Lowndesboro resident Laura Pullam is still under investigation according to the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
“The troopers who are working the case are still putting the facts together,” said Steve Jarret, spokesperson for the Alabama Department of Public Safety. “Once all the facts are collected we’ll pass it on to the Montgomery County District Attorney.”
Care Ambulance EMT and Lowndesboro resident Laura Pullam was killed Wednesday when she was struck by a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Robert Allen Cumbie, 42, of Montgomery.
At the time. Pullam was responding to two motor vehicle crashes on Interstate 65 at the 161 mile marker in Montgomery County.
Pullam was transported to Baptist South Hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries.
A preliminary investigation of the accident indicated Cumbie’s vehicle was traveling in excess of the posted speed and passing other motorists who had slowed due to the icy road conditions.
Alabama state troopers are conducting a traffic homicide investigation.
The Department of Public Safety’s Traffic Homicide Unit investigates fatal crashes in which the driver of the prime contributing vehicle survives, for presentation to the appropriate district attorney.
As of Friday, Montgomery County Chief Deputy District Attorney Darryl Bailey said the office is waiting to see what determinations come from the investigation.
“Once they complete the investigation, and if they make an arrest, we’ll get the case pretty quickly,” he said. “If they don’t we’ll turn it over to the grand jury and go from there.”
