CAMDEN — Former state Rep. James Thomas is back in the Wilcox County Jail on a bond violation charge.
Fourth Judicial District Attorney Michael Jackson said Thomas was arrested shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday by Wilcox County authorities.
Thomas attended a Selma High School basketball game against Wilcox-Central Friday night, which is a violation of his bond agreement, the district attorney said.
“He is not supposed to be around children because of his charges,” Jackson said.
Thomas was arrested initially in mid-November by Wilcox Sheriff’s deputies and booked into jail after being charged with first-degree sexual abuse. He was released that same day after posting a $15,000 bail.
“He’ll be in jail until he has a hearing,” Jackson said. “That possibly could be after Christmas.”
Thomas’ charge stems from a complaint by a student at the high school where the former representative is principal.
