Time to say enough is enough

Another life was taken Friday morning. Another family was traumatized. Another criminal’s life was ruined. Another murder was recorded.
Enough is enough.
For far too long our city, our home, has been traumatized by violent crime of one degree or another. The crime rate in our city, our home, is far too high and those battling to curb the tide have done their best.
It is now our turn.
It is our turn to take back our city, our home, from those who would seek to commit a crime, from those who would seek to divide our community and those who would seek to capitalize on such division.
Enough is enough.
It is our turn to say Selma is no longer the place where such shootings, such violent crime, such murder are commonplace.
Enough is enough.
The murder that took place early Friday morning — on Christmas Eve no less — should be the last one we should ever hear about, but we are not that naïve. We know better.
But, what Friday morning’s murder should be is the catalyst for our city, our home, to rise up against those who would bring down Selma and Dallas County with their actions.
Our city, our home, has far too much to offer for the headlines on our hometown newspaper to speak of shootings, burglaries and murders.
Enough is enough.
Our hope for 2011 is for it to be year when we turned the tide, when we — as a community — said enough to crime and said goodbye to those who would divide.
Enough is simply enough.
