Published 9:40 pm Monday, December 27, 2010

The holiday season contains a lot of anticipation. There’s the anticipation of opening an unopened gift or the anticipation of reuniting with relatives.

On the flip side, there’s the anticipation of getting back home to return the gift and anticipation of getting away from those long-distant relatives.

We thought it was our turn to add our slight contribution to the holiday season anticipation.

Beginning with Thursday’s edition of the Times-Journal, we will begin counting down the top 10 stories from Selma, Dallas County and the Black Belt from 2010.

Thursday’s edition will have the No. 8, No. 9 and No. 10 stories of the year.

In Friday’s edition, we will reveal the No. 5, No. 6 and No. 7 stories of the year. Saturday’s edition will follow with the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 stories.

And, in Sunday’s edition, we will unveil what our staff considers the biggest story of 2010.

But, there is still time to add your thoughts on just what were the top stories of the year.

Log on to our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/selmatimesjournal and post what story you believe had the biggest impact on the nearly gone 2010.

We are also looking forward to your reaction when the top 10 is finally revealed.

At this point, we aren’t even sure what the top stories are and in what order they will be revealed.

Could it be the bond issue Selma voters approved to help pay for much-needed fire trucks, garbage trucks and other capital investments? Could it be the now under construction new Selma High School, to be completed in two and a half years?

What about the November elections?

Regardless, there are a lot of stories to choose from. But, we can only pick 10.
