Dallas County residents who have not paid their property taxes will have the option to do so by mail, on the web or in person Friday.
Because the deadline for property tax is Dec. 31, Dallas County Tax Collector Tammy King said the office is open on New Year’s Eve.
In an earlier interview, King said there are several options to pay property tax up to the deadline to make it easier on residents who might be out of town for the holidays.
“They can go on the website and pay their taxes, they can come to the courthouse and pay the taxes or they can mail their taxes in as long as it’s postmarked by Dec. 31,” she said.
Payments can be mailed to P.O. Box 987 Selma, AL, 36702.
The office will reopen Jan. 3, but King said at that point penalties will apply.
In addition to property tax, Friday is also the deadline for residents to apply for exemptions, which will affect the following year.
King reminded mobile home owners there is a separate deadline, which was Nov. 30. Those who pay now will be assessed a $10 penalty.
