A New Year’s Eve murder has one Selma resident in the Dallas County Jail under no bond.
Ronald Darnell Cooper, 21, is charged with murder and unlawful possession of marijuana, second-degree.
Selma Police Sgt. Doug Stewart said witnesses told police they saw Cooper in an argument with a female in the 1300 block of Water Avenue.
Cooper allegedly pulled a handgun and pointed it at the woman when a man stepped in between the two.
Stewart said the suspect fired the weapon. The victim was struck in the upper torso.
The victim, Kevin Stallworth, 28, was transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, said police chief William Riley.
Cooper is scheduled to make his first appearance in Dallas County District Court, Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 1:30 p.m.
