Attorney General-elect Luther Strange has announced key people in his office. Looks like former AG Pryor’s second coming when you read the list:
First comes Richard Allen as chief deputy. Allen held the position during the tenures of Jeff Sessions and Bill Pryor. He also was acting attorney general after Pryor was appointed federal judge. Allen has been commissioner of the Alabama Department of Correction since 2006. If his work the last five years is any indicator — the prison system is much improved, but still facing some high hurdles.
Jessica Medeiros Garrison will return to the AG’s office, but this time as chief counsel. Garrison served under Pryor as public relations and legislative affairs person.
John Nieman Jr. will be solicitor general, which supervises the stat’s handling of appellate litigation. He was a partner at Bradley Arrant Boult Cummings LLP in Birmingham. Nieman is a Harvard Law School grad. Nieman clerked under Justice Anthony Kennedy.
Prim Formby Escalona will be deputy solicitor general. She had served as a law clerk to Pryor and comes in from Maynard, Cooper & Gale where she was a litigation associate.
Kevin L. Turner will serve as special deputy attorney general. He also comes out of the Bradley Arrant Boult Cummings law firm in Birmingham.
