Ice storm warning issued to begin at 1 p.m. Sunday

An ice storm warning is in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday  to 6 p.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham.

The winter storm warning is cancelled.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Birmingham say accumulating ice could start as early as this afternoon with significant accumulations later tonight across the southern counties from Livingston to Troy, spreading northward to just south of Interstate 20 by Monday morning.

While the wintry precipitation will likely start out as snow in most areas, it will quickly become sleet and freezing rain late this afternoon, continuing through the day Monday.

Ice accumulation is expected to range from 1/4 to 1/2 inch in some locations of the warning area.

An ice storm warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring.
