Reginald Vaughan Hudson

Reginald Vaughan Hudson died January 17, 2011. He was a native of Selma, AL, and one of Dallas County’s early families from Summerfield and Cahaba.

During his lifetime he was an interceptor pilot with the USAF, and later served during the Berlin Crisis as a reconnaissance pilot with the

Alabama National Guard. He received both his Bachelor’s degree and Masters from Auburn University and taught English at Troy University. After three years, he attended the University of Alabama for post graduate academics. Hudson taught English at Wallace Community College for the next 23 years, retiring in 1993. During his tenure at WCCS, he received a Fulbright Exchange Teacher award-one of 200 awarded nationally- and taught language arts in London, U.K.

As a member of the Episcopal Church for over 50 years, he was President of St. Paul’s choir in 1982, and formally President of the Summerfield Memorial Association. In addition to these accomplishments he wrote frequently of his travels to Europe and published a novel of remembrance in 2006.

He is survived by two daughters, Angela H. Butler of Spring Branch, Tx., and her two daughters, and a daughter, Mary Martha Hudson who resides in Birmingham, Al. and numerous other relatives.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Church of the Ascension in Vestavia Hills, AL Thursday January 20, 2011 at 10:00 AM with a 3:00 PM committal service at new Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, AL.
