MONTGOMERY (AP) — Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley is creating a commission to find ways to reduce government spending with little or no reduction in state services.
Bentley signed an executive order Tuesday to start the Alabama Commission on Improving State Government. The executive order coincides with Bentley looking at whether to cut the state General Fund budget because of less-than-anticipated revenue.
Bentley spokeswoman Rebekah Mason said the governor will announce the appointments to the commission in a few days. It’s supposed to deliver its recommendations to the governor by June 1, roughly two weeks before the Legislature wraps up its regular session.
Bentley’s order also directs state agencies to look for duplicated, outdated and ineffective services that can be eliminated.
