Schools have plans for weather days

With winter hopefully a few weeks from ending, local schools and school systems are figuring out when and how to make up missed days to severe winter weather.

Some schools, like Meadowview Christian School and Morgan Academy have built days into their school calendars preparing for days missed for severe weather.

“We have a couple built in,” Morgan Academy headmaster Randy Skipper said. “So right now we are OK as long as we don’t miss two more days. We have only missed the one, so we are good.”

Other schools, like those in the Dallas County school system are waiting until a later time, just in case more severe weather hits.

“We haven’t made a decision yet,” said David Hagood, a representative with the Dallas County School Board. “We want to wait until later to see if they have to cancel school again. We want to make sure it is as easy as possible for everyone.”

Selma City School Superintendent Donald Jefferson said the system would decide its makeup day by Thursday.

“Right now that is on the agenda,” Jefferson said. “We are going to discuss it and figure out what the best date is for all of the principals and then come to a decision.”

At the moment, the only school system that has come to a final decision on when it will make up its lost weather day up is Perry County Schools, which will be Feb. 21.
