Dallas County has a little more basketball left to play this season.
The fourth ranked Hornets (26-4) easily handled Beaureguard 76-44 in the sub-regional game in Plantersville on Friday night despite being in foul trouble for most of the game.
“We didn’t do a very good job of adjusting to the way the referees were calling the game tonight,” Dallas County coach Willie Moore said. “I didn’t ever feel like we weren’t in control of the game, but we were just trying to put so much pressure on them early that couldn’t adjust.”
The Hornets always aggressive defense helped them jump out to a 26-13 lead after the end of the first quarter, but then the foul trouble began to take hold.
Starters Justin Moore, Marcus Kelley and William Lee all got three fouls before the half ended, forcing the Hornets to go to the bench early, but it wasn’t a problem for Dallas County.
“We really feel like we have 10-12 kids who can go out there anytime we play,” Moore said. “That’s why I tell them they always have to be prepared in case they have to play significant minutes.”
Even having to go to the bench, the Hornets were able to pull ahead to a 49-29 lead going into the half and putting the game completely out of reach in the third.
“I’m proud of these guys for going out and getting the win tonight,” Moore said.
Henry Baker led the Hornets scoring with 32 points.
DeAndre Mcintyre had 13 points and Jessie Reeves had 12 to end the players in double figures for Dallas County.
The Hornets will play Wednesday at 10:30 at the Acadome on the campus of ASU in Montgomery.
