Dallas County softball season opens on a roll

Dallas County opened its season with a 6-1 victory over Trinity in the Brewbaker Tournament in Montgomery.

Cassie Daniels threw a one hitter while recording eight strikeouts in the victory.  Amy Persinger, Daniels, and Whitney Denson collected hits for the Lady Hornets.

In game two, the Lady Hornets had a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Stanhope-Elmore.  Daniels again picked up the win while throwing a two-hitter while recording 10 strikeouts.

The Lady Hornets were down 2-1 in the last frame when Denson led off with a single followed by a Daniels single.

With two outs, Denson scored as the ball bobbled away from the catcher.

Pinch hitter Jasmine Gould followed with a double to score pinch runner Brianna Atkinson for the go-ahead run.

The Lady Hornets gained the top seed in the tournament going into elimination play Saturday.

The Lady Hornets opened elimination play with a 7-1 victory over the host Brew-Tech team.

The Lady Hornets struck quickly and took a 3-0 lead in the first on RBI hits by Cassie Daniels, Whitney Denson, and Ciera Ingram.

The lead was pushed to seven in the fourth as Ingram, Debra Cunningham, Alicia Blackmon, and Avery Mott all singled.

Daniels threw a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

In the semifinal game, the Hornets took a commanding three run lead over Trinity as Kendall Veach smashed a homerun over centerfield as Daniels commanded a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts.

In the championship game against Stanhope Elmore, the Lady Hornets fought from behind for the 2-1 victory.

Whitney Denson tied the game in the second inning as she took home on a bobbled ball following an Ingram single.

Then in the third, consecutive singles by Mott, Daniels, and Veach plated Mott for the go-ahead run.

The Hornets defense stepped up with two double plays to squash threats by Stanhope as Daniels again was in control while allowing three hits and  recording eight strikeouts.
