The Selma Blaster Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation is hoping for another successful event when it hosts its annual Hunting Heritage Banquet Friday.

The event, banquet chairman Charlie Duckett said, will be held at Lions Park, the old National Guard Armory, and the doors will open at 6 p.m. The dinner will begin at 7 p.m.

“We want to thank the community for supporting us to make the chapter consistently one of the top in the state,” he said. “We are trying to make the banquet a family-friendly atmosphere and also raise money for the conservation efforts of the National Wild Turkey Federation.”

The Selma chapter has achieved Golden Gobbler status for 21 straight years, which recognizes the best chapters in the nation.

After placing second as the state’s best overall chapter and first in the number of sponsors for 2010, the Blaster committee’s goal is to regain the title of best overall chapter in the state.

Duckett said he hopes his year’s banquet is one of the best in the chapter’s history.

The money raised at the banquet will be used to support the various conservation efforts of the NWTF at the national, state, and local levels.

Duckett said 56 percent of the money is returned to the Alabama Chapter to be used for local projects in support of conservation and wild life preservation efforts.

The banquet tickets, which include NWTF membership, meals and refreshments are $55 for a single, $75 per couple and $25 for JAKES.
