Emily Hurt Sherer Weissinger died peacefully on March 14, 2011 at The Rosemont in Kingwood, TX. She was 89 years old. Born in Marion, AL on September 29 in 1921, Emily lived and worked in Selma for most of her life. She was a dedicated educator and elementary school principal, an elder at First Presbyterian Chruch in Selma, and an active member of the community. Emily is preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack Sherer, her daughter Patti Sherer Sims, and her granddaughter, Sherer Huckabee. She is also preceded in death by her second husband, Bill (Doc) Weissinger. She is survived by her children Jack and his wife Tara, Steve and his wife Valori, and Paul and his wife Heidi, as well as eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at The Rosemont on Friday, March 18 at 2:00 p.m. A service of committal and burial is planned for later in the year in Selma.
