The Dallas County High School track team was back in action for the first time in several years Thursday and had a strong showing against several larger schools in Tuscaloosa.
The meet, which was held at Bryant High School, included Hillcrest, Northridge, Jefferson Davis, Stanhope Elmore and Sipsey Valley.
The team, head coach Robert Dolbare said, did well despite their inexperience.
“This is the first time we have had a team in several years so it was a great learning experience,” he said. “We still have a lot of work to do and we are hoping to be ready for sectionals in April in Montgomery.”
Several Dallas County athletes had high finishes in the deep field.
Shaquita Sheilds took first place in the girls 100 and 200 meter dash and Brandon Harvell took third in the mens’ 200 meter dash and discus.
Chris Hunter took third place in the men’s 400 meter dash and DeAndre McIntyre took first place in the long-jump.
Sarah Ferrell took third place in the girls 400 meter dash and Challen Spradley took third place in the girls discus.
