A shooting Tuesday just before 7 p.m. left a 17-year-old female with a gunshot wound and the Selma Police Department on the trail of the man who they believe pulled the trigger.
According to Selma Chief of Police William T. Riley, the shooting took place at the corner of Mechanic Street and Hardie Avenue.
As of 8:30 p.m., Riley said the department is still gathering information on the case. However, Riley said the victim was familiar with the person who fired the weapon and has given a name.
“We stopped by the house where the suspect lives, but he is not there,” he said. “We are still trying to reach the suspect through his mother.”
The victim’s injuries, Riley said, do not appear to be life-threatening. However, he added, there was extensive damage.
“The victim is being transported to a hospital in Montgomery because the bullet might have broken bones in the leg,” Riley said. “It doesn’t appear to be life-threatening, but she is being transported because of the damage to the leg.”
Riley said officers on the scene were still gathering evidence and collecting information as to what lead to the shooting.
The suspect, he said, did not seem willing to turn himself in.
