Tonight, mayors from the Black Belt will come together for a night of networking, celebration, food and fun.
The annual Mayors of the Black Belt Charity Ball, now in its third year, will go to help the Black Belt chapter of the American Red Cross. The ball begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Carl C. Morgan Convention Center. Tickets, which are still available, are $50 for singles and $75 for a couple.
Jakki Caldwell-Phillips, executive director for the Black Belt Red Cross, said she is looking forward to a great time of music and food.
“We’ve had a good response so far,” Phillips said. “I really expect Thursday night to be an outstanding and memorable event.”
With a live house band and free limousine service available to the public before and after the program at the School of Discovery parking lot, the night is sure to be full of glitz and glamour.
Though the deadline to purchase tickets was Friday, Phillips said it’s still not too late to get your ticket.
“The public must come by the Red Cross office by noon today to purchase their tickets,” Phillips said.
The ball’s headlining act, Brother-2-Brother, a six-member band from Tuscaloosa, has played classics from Frank Sinatra to Louis Armstrong to Beyonce. They are excited about returning back to the Queen city.
“We were more than happy and energetic to come back to Selma,” said Ivory Wilson, band manager.
Last year, the Black Belt chapter, which serves Dallas, Marengo, Perry and Wilcox counties, provided more than $37,000 in assistance to victims, collected 1,289 units of blood and responded to 107 disasters.
