Anthony Brown, 27, of Selma was taken into custody late Tuesday night and charged with assault first degree following a Tuesday shooting that sent a 17-year-old girl to the hospital.
According to Selma Police Sgt. Doug Stewart, Brown turned himself in and is being held in the Dallas County Jail. In a bond hearing Wednesday, Circuit Court Judge Bob Armstrong set Brown’s bond at $1 million.
An earlier incident, Stewart said, fueled the fire for the shots.
“A female reported she was standing outside with a relative when a male subject began riding back and forth on the street harassing them about an earlier altercation,” Stewart said. “One of the females stated she saw the male walking down the street with a gun in his hand and shot at them striking the 17-year-old female in the thigh area.”
The incident took place shortly after 6:30 p.m., Stewart said at the corner of Mechanic Street and Hardie Avenue.
Following the incident, Selma Police Chief William T. Riley said the victim’s injuries did not appear to be life threatening, but she was transported to Montgomery because there were broken bones in her leg.
