After 30 days, 3,000 miles and various hotels, the Selma University Bulldogs finally had a chance to play at home. Though renovations at Bulldog Field forced SU to neighboring Bloch Park it did not dampen their spirits as the team posted a doubleheader sweep of the Spring Hill College Badgers 5-2 and 6-2 Tuesday afternoon.
Playing in Selma for the first time since March 12, the Bulldogs took advantage of solid pitching and defense to improve their record to 16-13 on the season.
In game one, the Bulldogs jumped ahead in the third inning after a double by Terry McClain and a single by Bubba Robinson netted two runs. Sophomore outfielder Curt Williams finished the scoring in the sixth with a two-run homerun after a single by Justin Brown.
Freshman David Lee pitched a complete game to earn his second victory of the season. He struck out six Badger hitters allowing two runs scattering five hits.
In game two, the Bulldogs duplicated their success from game one by opening the scoring in the third inning when Eddie Waters hit a solo homerun and McClain scored on a double by Robinson. C.J. Lindsey hit a three-run homerun in the sixth extending the Bulldogs’ advantage. Freshman Xavier Griffin pitched a complete game to earn his first victory of the season.
The Bulldogs are back on the road next week against Tougaloo College in Jackson, Miss.
