The Morgan Academy tennis team continued its mission of bringing home state titles Monday at Lagoon Park with a strong showing for both the men’s and women’s squads.
Both teams, head coach Baxter Stinson said, brought their A-game on day one of the Alabama Independent School Association finals.
“This is an exciting time,” he said. “I feel like both teams have played well and are ready for the next step.”
On the men’s side, the No.1 doubles team, consisting of Jody Glover and Reed Stewart, will play for the championship. Glover will aso represent the school in the No. 2 singles slot.
In the No. 3 singles, Hain Beers will try to finish on top along with Kyle Stewart in the No.5 spot.
The Morgan girl’s team was totally dominant advancing in every category, which Stinson said is a first.
“That has never happened in the history of Morgan tennis,” he said. “They have played really well, some through really hard matches.”
The true test will begin Tuesday morning, Stinson said, when the teams hit the court at 9 a.m. for a second consecutive day of tennis. Despite the warm temperatures and grueling schedule, Stinson said he feels the team is up to the challenge.
Both Senator squads entered the tournament with undefeated records.
