District Attorney Michael Jackson and the U.S. Attorney’s office of Mobile will host the annual Law Enforcement Training Conference Thursday and Friday at the Carl C. Morgan Convention Center.
District attorneys, police and sheriff departments, drug task forces, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms officials, FBI officials and Secret Service members from across central and south Alabama, plan to attend the conference.
Jackson said the conference, which continues to be a success, is a great way for law enforcement officials to network.
“Law enforcement officials from all over the state will have a chance to fellowship, discuss problem areas and bounce ideas off of each other,” Jackson said. “It’s good for Selma’s economy too.”
Training will be Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (APOST) certified for executive level training and continuing education units (CEU), or annual credit hours in education and training. Officials will be trained in the following areas: U.S. Marshal Service Sex Offender Investigation Coordination, Criminal Patrol for Administrators and Sovereign Citizens and how to identify them.
Jackson said many more topics, such as the Adam Walsh Act, which deals with sexual offenders, child protection and abduction, will also be discussed at the conference.
“In particular, we’ll get to talk to officials about the gang problem here in Dallas County and throughout the Black Belt,” Jackson said.
Registration for the event begins Thursday at 7:30 a.m. until 8 a.m. and the program will follow. Thursday’s event will end around 4 p.m. Friday’s event begins at 8 a.m. and will end around 12:15 p.m.
There is a minimum registration fee of $50, but officials can register on the first day of the conference, May 26.
