Demius K. Jackson, 21, was murdered on April 17, the victim of a gunshot to the back.

The early morning shooting at G.W.C. Homes left authorities with few clues, little evidence and a lot of questions.

But Saturday, Selma Chief of Police William Riley announced the department had not only arrested a suspect in connection with the murder, but that the suspect had confessed to shooting, killing Jackson.

Riley said the department, after sifting through evidence and recently returned reports from the state forensics lab, was able to make an arrest late Friday evening.

Jermaine Derell Edwards, 17, was taken into custody and interviewed by detectives. During the interviews, Edwards reportedly confessed to the killing and was taken into custody.

Edwards, who goes by the nickname ‘Glock,’ was charged and placed in the Dallas County Jail without bond. He will appear in court for a bond hearing this week.

Authorities were also able to confiscate the weapon reportedly used in the murder.

Riley said Edwards had a criminal history, including gun-related charges.

At the time of the shooting, authorities reported the gunshot, which entered Jackson in the back, exited his stomach.

Jackson was rushed to Vaughan Regional Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be far too great and he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
