Candidates Greg Bjelke and Gwen Brown have been feverishly campaigning to find as much support as they can in the Selma City Council Ward 3 race. With just under two weeks left, the two have been knocking on doors, handing out materials and doing all they can to get the advantage in what is expected to be a tight race.
“We’re going to every home and knocking on every door to ensure people vote because Selma’s future depends on it,” Bjelke said. “Ward 3 has fallen into disrepair and needs to be cleaned up. It requires special attention because it’s our historic area.”
Brown said her campaign plans haven’t changed since she entered the race.
“Our plans are the same. I want to keep talking to people to know them and find out how they want to be represented and so that they can get to know me,” Brown said. “My platform is the concerns of the people; not just some people, but all of the people. Different people have different needs.”
Friday, June 25 marks the final day those residents in Ward 3 not already registered to vote can do so. Registration is held at the Dallas County Board of Registrars in the Dallas County Courthouse. The registrar’s office closes at 4:30 p.m.
Also, for those registered voters who will not be able to head to the polls on Tuesday, July 5, the deadline for filling out and mailing in an absentee ballot is Thursday, June 30.
