Selma resident Curtis Pettway appears to have been the lone target of a brutal shooting Wednesday afternoon and police are now working to find out who may have pulled the trigger.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the 2100 block of Minter Avenue where they found Pettway with several gunshot wounds and clinging to life.

According to Selma Chief of Police William T. Riley, emergency officials worked to stabilize Pettway and then transported him to Vaughan Regional Medical Center. From there, he was transported to Birmingham, where he remains in critical condition.

“From what we have learned is that two, young black males approached the victim, who was standing on his porch, and opened fire,” Riley said. “They were then seen running from the house.”

Riley said they have reports the two, after running from the scene, got into a green “Honda Accord-type” vehicle, where there was a third individual waiting. The vehicle was reportedly waiting for the suspects in the 1400 block of Maxey Street.
