The first high school football game of the season hasn’t been played yet, but it’s never too early to get some experience in game-like situations.
The Morgan Academy Senators played in a controlled scrimmage in Grove Hill against Clark Prep School on Friday.
Morgan Academy coach Brian King said his team had a great performance.
“Offensively, we moved the ball really, really well,” King said.
“We had some great run plays and had a few passing touchdowns and all the fundamentals we worked on just came together and clicked. I’m really proud of our guys.”
King said his team had 10 plays on offense and 10 plays on defense.
“We had some really good stands on defense,” King said. “We did well holding them. Overall, everyone got in and got a lot of reps and we’ve got a lot of good stuff on film to go over.
“It was a pretty positive experience all around.”
The Senators will take the field on Friday at home in a jamboree game against Fort Dale Academy at 7 p.m.
“I’m looking forward to some good competition,” King said. “Fort Dale is returning a lot of players and they’re going to have a really good team. We just can’t wait to get that extra practice in and get prepared for our first regular season game against Tuscaloosa Academy.”
The Senators officially open the season at home against the Knights during a tough September run that will see them travel to Prattville Christian before coming home to face Macon-East Montgomery.
The Senators then hit the road for two consecutive road trips to traditional powers Edgewood and Bessemer before returning home to play East Memorial.
The season wraps up with a trip to Hooper, home games with Kingwood and South Choctaw and a regular season finale at Southern.
